A Season of Celebration

“ For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” ( Isaiah 9:6)

As the holiday season is upon us I pray that we do not allow the hustle and bustle to distract us from the true celebration. As I sit by the fire and reflect upon this verse I can’t help but reflect upon the truth of Christ. He is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.
While friends of our family visited with us last month the children and I read The Best/Worst Christmas Pageant Ever! by Barbara Robinson. This story is about the Herdmans, who are the worst behaved children. The children invade church one Sunday and end up taking over the major roles in the Christmas pageant. None of the Herdmans had ever heard the Christmas story before, which brought up some very interesting questions. As the Herdmans learned more about what Christmas was really about it reminded me to take time to reflect upon it too. So many times as adults we seem to make things more complicated, we need an explanation for everything, and we get distracted with the details. My prayer is that during this season we would take time to read the story about Christ’s birth and reflect upon this precious gift that gives us life.
